So as a first blog, I thought it would be fitting to open with a poem, one that I wrote a few months ago. It's called "Away" ...
"I can't hear the rain here,
No tapping on my roof, gently like a lullaby.
The sea is beyond my view,
Its surface rising and falling with the moon.
The heater buzzes, and occasionally ticks.
Sometimes I hear voices from next door.
And a radio, from down the hall.
Electronics, civilisation, technology,
These sounds are inescapable here.
I'm not allowed to light candles in my room,
It's a fire hazard they say.
So I sit in the dark to think.
Outside I can hear cars on the motorway,
And see the lights of the city, invading my room
Through my uncurtained window.
I am in the city now, and must try to forget my roots;
Become one with the concrete machine;
Understand it, and it will understand you.
At night in my dreams I am wandering through parks,
The real parks of home, not the sports parks of the city -
Imitation grasses that are falsely labelled.
I dream of the parks in which there will be a thin winding path,
Making its way through a delicately grown grove of trees.
Some tall and magnificent, others smaller and flower bearing.
And in the centre of the park is a patch of daffodils,
Happy and yellow, dancing like mirrors of the sun.
Free. "
Now don't worry, not all of my posts are going to be poems, but it is a hobby of mine to read and write them so there will be many more in the future.
I am not yet quite sure of the aim of my blog, expressing my thoughts and opinions on things from everyday life I suppose was my main reason for starting it, so HERE GOES!!
